About the Role
The Program Assistant will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of SSL–MENA’s research, editorial, and outreach activities. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about social sciences and the MENA region. The Program Assistant will work closely with the lab’s leadership, researchers, and external partners to ensure smooth project execution and effective communication.
This is a non-paid internship position with an initial term of three months, renewable every quarter based on performance and project needs. There is a possibility for promotion to Program Manager, with remuneration determined by merit and the availability of funds.
In addition, selected candidates may benefit from MSCA or Erasmus mobility scholarships by applying with SSL–MENA as the origin institute and undertaking a research or training mobility at another European host institute.
This role supports a research lab across six main areas:
Program coordination & admin: organizing events, tracking projects, scheduling, and general executive support.
Communications & outreach: handling emails, updating website/social media, and producing newsletters and promotional content.
Data & documentation: managing databases, records, reports, and documentation.
Research & funding support: identifying grants, funding calls, and partnership opportunities, and supporting proposal preparation.
Community engagement: maintaining networks with fellows, scholars, and partners to strengthen collaboration and visibility.
General operations: calendar management, meeting coordination, and other administrative tasks.
Requirements
Education & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, humanities, communications, or a related field (Preferred but not required).
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Arabic is an asset).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with online collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, Slack, etc.).
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
Interest in academic publishing, research management, or policy engagement.
Experience
No prior experience is required but administrative, program coordination, or academic support experience is desirable.
Experience in research, editing, or event management is preferred and will be viewed as an asset, though not essential.
