About the Role
Editors will be entrusted with:
Leading the scientific and editorial development of the MENA Yearbook of Social Sciences.
Managing the full editorial workflow and peer review process.
Upholding the highest standards of ethical publishing in line with SSL–MENA and COPE guidelines.
Advancing the Yearbook’s strategic positioning and visibility within the MENA region and internationally.
Editorial Management
Oversee day-to-day editorial operations.
Assign reviewers and ensure rigorous peer review (minimum two reviews per submission).
Make final acceptance/rejection decisions.
Manage special issues and appoint Special Issue Editors where appropriate.
Editorial Strategy and Development
Define and implement the Yearbook’s publication strategy, scope, and vision in collaboration with SSL–MENA.
Promote the Yearbook at conferences, academic networks, and across the broader social sciences community.
Foster diversity in topics, methods, geographic representation, and author profiles.
Enhance the Yearbook’s visibility and international impact.
Team and Board Coordination
Communicate with the Editorial Team, Review Editors, and Editorial Board.
Convene Editorial Board meetings as needed.
Recommend new Board members, ensuring diversity and rotation.
Reporting and Liaison
Provide regular updates to SSL–MENA’s Publications Committee (including editorial statistics and progress reports).
Attend relevant regional and international academic events to represent the Yearbook.
Institutional and Ethical Responsibilities
Uphold editorial independence while respecting SSL–MENA’s policies.
Ensure all editorial processes align with COPE and international publishing standards.
Requirements
Applicants should demonstrate:
Recognized expertise and an international publication record in social sciences or related fields relevant to the MENA region.
Strategic vision for the MENA Yearbook of Social Sciences’ growth, scope, and impact.
Familiarity with editorial platforms and workflows used in academic publishing.
Excellent English or Arabic communication skills.
Commitment to inclusive and ethical publishing practices, adhering to COPE standards.
Ability to foster diversity in topics, methods, geographic representation, and author profiles.
